March 1

Teacher Message: What a great job our class did leading the Celebration Of Learning and Pink Shirt Day Assembly. Thank you to each student who did their best. Every role was important. I think we left a positive impression that being kind is very important.

There is some math 'homework' that I would like each student to complete in their T.W.A.S.. We are learning to understand that we need to 'show' how we got an answer in math. See the attached videos for each Grade's concept. Any questions, don't hesitate to email me. It is still optional for your child to write in your agenda about their weekend. They get to share with the class.

I'm am glad to see quite a few students keeping veggies on their desk to munch on throughout the day. I hope many students have already increased their intake of veggies! Just a reminder that if students want to keep veggies on their desk, I ask that students DO NOT use glass dishes for these veggies. We've had several glass dishes fall off desks over the past few weeks and glass shatters everywhere. I suggest plastic containers or reusable/recyclable bags. (I know I like glass too but it's for safety's sake!)

We have a Field Trip coming up on May 1 to the Calgary Humane Society (morning). If you are interested, please email me!

MATH HOMEWORK:

Grade 1 is expected to show one strategy on how they can add up the dots on the domino. (Here is video to help - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9rmcy8tjj1g&feature=youtu.be

Grade 2 is expected to show one strategy on how they can add up the double digit addition problem by decomposing the number and using a number line. (Here are videos to help - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PG5EjAdl1JY&feature=youtu.be

Grade 1 here is your domino. In your T.W.A.S. book, show (at least) one strategy that you would use to solve the problem. Use the procedure that was written in the T.W.A.S book. Procedure: Draw the domino at the top. Write how you would add the dots. Write a sentence such as - There are ___ dots.
Grade 2 here is your addition sentence. In your T.W.A.S. book, show (at least) one strategy that you would use to solve the problem. Use the procedure that was written in the T.W.A.S book. Procedure: Write the equation at the top. Show how you would decompose the number. Show how you would add it on a number line. Complete the equation - 47 + 64 = ___.

   37 + 54 =

Science - We have reviewed how animals keep warm in cold temperatures. Here is a video to support this - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TwfKCX_8fbA

We tested another insulator (a travel mug). Ask your child about the experiment.

After putting 80 Degree Celsius water in a travel mug and in a glass, we check their temperatures. After about 20-30 minutes. the travel mug water only decreased about 15 degrees in temperature. The glass water dropped about 40 degrees. The travel mug acts as an insulator and traps the heat.

We had also checked out our Normal Body Temperature with a thermometer. Try this at home when you're feeling well.

We listened to an audio about what happens when our body is not healthy - fever or hypothermia. Check out the info at Kid's Health.

Working on how we can protect ourselves from the Heat and Cold.

Gym - working on hockey skills.

We had a little test this week on Hot and Cold Temperatures. Results will be sent home next week. Please review with your child, sign and return to school.
Our next Science Unit will be Buoyancy and Boats.

LOOK HOW YOUR CHILD WILL TRY TO 'PINK IT FORWARD'. ASK YOUR CHILD WHAT PROMISE THEY WILL KEEP.

How can you show kindness and PINK IT FORWARD?

I promise …

to help if anyone is hurt.

to include others when I play.

to try and help the less fortunate.

to make room for friends in the lunchroom.

to make space at the carpet for anyone.

to listen to a friend if they are having a sad day.

to talk to someone if they look lonely.

to be kind and give a smile.

to help someone if the drop something.
