April 19

TEACHER'S MESSAGE:
NO school Friday and Monday. See you on Tuesday. Tell your parents about Frisbee Rob! The Frisbee Rob challenge will be going home on Monday. See the info. at the end of the Blog.

LANGUAGE ARTS:
We were busy writing letters to each of our Canadian communities. We want to learn more about these communities. Grade 2's are also expected to write a friendly letter. We REALLY VISITED the 3 communities this week - wink, wink ;). A BIG THANK

YOU TO MR. MASSEY FOR SHARING HIS VIRTUAL REALITY GLASSES WITH US AND LETTING US REALLY 'EXPERIENCE' THESE THREE COMMUNITIES. P.S. Ask your child what each community had in common? (Answer: Tim Hortons!).
On Thursday, we mailed out letters to the 3 communities. Which one will come back first? A BIG thankyou to our volunteers (Mrs. Ursulescu and Mr. Massey) for joining us.
We also had a fantastic celebration of our Writing Goal on Wednesday.  We played two indigenous games and made pizza and ate fruit salad. A BIG THANK YOU to all our wonderful parents who contributed food for our fun celebration.

MATH:
Grade 1 continues to work on counting skills.
Grade 2 continues to work on addition/subtraction skills.
Together, Grade 1/2 work on sharing strategies to solve problems(Math Talks). We are working on Math Fair games/problems and learning how to create different levels of difficulty.

SOCIAL STUDIES:
We are busy learning about Meteghan, Saskatoon and Iqaluit. We learned that Saskatoon is named after the berry of the same name, which is native to the region, and is itself derived from the Cree misâskwatômina.

SCIENCE:
We learned about different materials that are used to make boats.

Frisbee Rob's Get Unplugg'd Challenge

I challenge you to change when you use screens. That means instead of playing video games, play outside. Instead of watching a movie, read a book. Instead of watching tv, go write. Instead of going on social media, go hang out with your friends.
I want you to develop self-discipline about how much time you are spending using technology and in front of a screen. Technology can be amazing when used to help improve ourselves, communicate with our friends & family and make life easier.
But if we are passionate about something and we end up spending 2, 3, 4 or more hours every day in front of a screen, then we won't have the chance to explore and discover how much we can love our passion and how good we can become. Instead of watching others do something they love, go do what you love to do instead. If you don’t have something, explore, try new things, and discover what your thing might be.
If you complete my challenge, you could win something. But the real value is knowing that you can set screen time limits. If you try the challenge, that's a victory and if you complete the challenge, then you should be proud because you have proven to yourself that you can do it.
I believe in you. But I want you to believe in yourself first.
Frisbee Rob

Dear Earl Grey students,
Frisbee Rob has suggested to try and change times when you use technology. He has challenged us to:
1.)  Not have screens in our bedrooms
2.)  Not to have screens at the dinner table
3.)  To turn off screens 60 min before bedtime
If you would like to participate in this challenge to try and change or reduce the amount of time you use technology fill out the chart below.
INSTRUCTIONS: Submit the chart to the school office and your name will go into a draw to win the cool spinning Frisbee Rob has left for us. Submission deadline is May 1st. Chart needs to be fully completed in order for your name to be put into the draw.
Have fun with it and good luck!
