Fun and LEARNING with Mr. Massey - Five Senses - sense of taste, smell, hearing, touch and sight. We use ALL five senses to taste (not just our tastebuds). Can you tell about the Science experiment we tried on Monday when we thought we were drinking different flavors of juice (different colored juice), when actually all the juice was apple juice.

Grade 2 writing expectations -
- identify nouns and verbs, and use in own writing
- identify adjectives and adverbs that add interest and detail to stories

IDENTIFY BETWEEN NOUNS AND PROPER NOUNS - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZCl69dVtW0E

WHAT IS VERB? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3MpFj4K_Ac8

WHAT IS AN ADJECTIVE?https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QxoDGlPUmyU

WHAT IS AN ADVERB? (we  have not reviewed adverbs yet!)https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=StyV3acYm0g

WE ARE STARTING A CLASS GOAL -

We will use an ice rink, working on having everyone skate across the rink and reach the goal!
(Thanks Sarah and Jaiden for drawing the rink for us!).

Science - Heating and Cooling Materials https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t94VqIFMveI
We'll be looking at this next week.
This week we reviewed the temperature in our classroom (about 25 oC degrees Celsius). What are ways to cool or warm up a room. Ask your child what they brainstormed.

Venn Diagrams - We've been comparing the community in our novel 'Little House in the Big Woods' to our city of Calgary. As well, then and now. We are using a Venn Diagram.

Practicing our poetry with a group. Here are some videos!

Grade 1 Math - We've reviewed that there are 4 ways that Grade 1 students needs to practice counting by. There is counting by 1's, 5's and 10's to 100. As well,  count by 2's to 20.  As well, count backwards from 20 to 1 (by 1's). Review with your child this weekend. Which way of counting is the most challenging for them? Take the time to practice! Thanks for your support!

On Thursday, we had Ms. Megan (Occupational Therapist) talk to us about Big Problems and Little problems. We focussed on how to deal with everyday problems which are Little Problems (or mouse problems NOT an elephant problem).  Please try out this language at home. It is helpful for kids to have a better perspective on what is a small problem and how kids should have a small reaction to a small problem.

Just a FYI - THis is the cream I have in my class, that kids can use if they have dry hands.

Gymnastics - Mission Impossible - OH SO MUCH FUN!!!!!!
